Kanako Sato - Underwater and Street Photography

Photographer Kanako Sato, one of EIZO’s ColorEdge Ambassadors, has long been using ColorEdge for her work. We talked to Ms. Sato about what she sees as important when creating works and her experience using ColorEdge.

What do you see as important when creating works?

I am conscious of how the beauty of light and color and the impact of composition can be incorporated into my work. The hue and intensity of light, season and weather, environment, natural or artificial lighting, not to mention location – there are so many factors to consider. In addition, I consider the color of the subject itself when adjusting the contrast and brightness on my screen in order to achieve the important element of harmony in my work. I think it’s important how each situation is judged, like whether or not to wait for the light on the subject to change, or to move to another place.

Whether it is underwater or in the streets, I want to capture those unique “once in a lifetime” moments and make them even more beautiful under the best lighting and color conditions. That is my philosophy.

What has been your experience with ColorEdge?

When requesting prints for exhibition, I used to have a hard time because the prints I received never perfectly matched the image I had created. When I started using ColorEdge about 6 years ago, I was blown away by the beauty and reproducibility of the colors. I felt like it was a big turning point in my work.

I find that my eyes don’t get tired when looking at the screen and I can focus on my work easier by attaching the hood. I also feel a sense of assurance and peace of mind thanks to automatic calibration with the built-in sensor. Now I am using two ColorEdge monitors.

The reproducibility of colors makes it perfect for data sharing, but it’s also useful when I make my own prints on various papers. More than anything, when I sit in front of the monitor I’m able to relive the time I took the photos, which makes me motivated and excited to make more beautiful photos. Just like my photography equipment, ColorEdge is a necessary tool for me.
